A one room whare, providing communal, sleeping, bathing, cooking, and eating spaces. Inhabitants sleep in the rafters, on mats stored above the west entrance.
Stretching east to west, the whare is aligned with the rising and setting sun, supplying inhabitants with both morning and evening porches.
Conceptually, the whare is concerned with the movement of an inhabitant through the landscape, as well as providing refuge and a point of observation of the environment.
